Overview

Overview

Lindsey teaches K-5 music with 4th and 5th grade chorus at Greenacres Elementary School in Scarsdale, NY.   Additionally, she teaches private voice lessons to students ages 12 – adult. She seeks ways in which to mindfully and creatively incorporate technology into the standard curriculum so that students were not simply learning to use software but were gaining knowledge and insight into themselves and the subject they were studying.

Before her time in Scarsdale, Lindsey taught middle school chorus and theatre at Bronxville Middle School (2008-2014). Lindsey was thrilled by the inaugural year of her partnership with Misha Johnson and their creation of Immersion Youth Repertory in Rochester, MN for students grades 4-12.  In the summer of 2019, she was the music director for Honk, Jr., and Les Miserables, also leading SEMYO (South Eastern Minnesota Youth Orchestra) in the pit. Previous projects include Urinetown, the Musical (2021),Into the Woods, Jr., Once Upon a Mattress, Legally Blonde, Jr., and musical theatre scene study classes. Students not only act and sing but also learn about technical theatre and serve on the crew!  Additionally, she has worked with a variety of age groups as a mentor and teacher designing and implementing curricula in music (performance-based and general music) and theatre (performance, technology and literature) to small groups, camps, and pre-professional children.

These experiences with students aged 3-25 have led her to a passionate commitment to interdisciplinary education that reaches beyond the classroom into the world community by fostering individual ability and self-awareness.  Helping a class of third grade students begin to understand the complex connections between emotion, musical expression and musical notation or guiding young actors to develop their understanding of script analysis and the present-day social implications of a major work in theatrical history are just two examples of the ways in which she has enabled students to see beyond the walls of their present lives through their involvement in the arts.  Lindsey has helped students find their own artistic voices within the cultural and historical traditions the arts have given us.  Lindsey is the recipient of a Scarsdale Teachers Institute mini-grant titled Music and Wellness: Creating a Toolbox (see an overview of the project here). Lindsey has a particular interest in creating sustainable performing arts programs across economic populations and continues to be excited about the possibility of helping young minds continue to look at the world through experiences, creativity, and discovery.  She combines artistic excitement, expression, and innovation within her work as a teaching artist in order to foster active education for students, enabling them with a keen sense of self-awareness and a devotion to their communities.

Lindsey earned her Ed.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University where she also received her M.A. and Ed.M in Music and Music Education. BFA - Performance Theatre, University of Colorado-Boulder
