Lindsey Blackhurst, Coloratura Soprano
Lindsey Blackhurst was surprised to find herself singing opera, as she had previously spent more time involved in contemporary American theatre than in a practice room. Priorities changed, and she found a love for the poetry, the language, and the drama that are wrapped up in opera. She became addicted to the kinesthetic feeling of expressing herself through song and realized THIS was why she had been singing all those years in choruses, children's theatre, college, and musical theatre productions.
While continuing her path as a chorus and drama teacher, she began participating in as many training programs and performances as possible, including Nico and Carol Castel's NY Opera Studio, Joan Dornemann's IVAI (Tel Aviv), and William Hobbs' inaugural season of Opera Slavica. Blackhurst has particularly loved finding her place in coloratura repertoire such as "Queen of the Night," "Zerbinetta," "Konstanze," and "Ophelié."
Blackhurst currently studies with Dr. Claudia Friedlander, and hopes to continue singing great music with wonderful colleagues! She has just finished a rewarding six-year stint teaching (chorus and drama) and directing at Bronxville Middle School and is now looking forward to the next stage of her career.
